These pages will attempt to expunge the myth that surrounds hoaxes. It isn't a page about individual hoaxes because there are much better available. Having read these pages, you will be better able to spot a hoax and therefore avoid the embarrassment or chastisement of your friends and colleagues resulting from blindly following instructions contained in a seemingly plausible email. There are usually three tell-tale clues to a hoax circulation:
  1. It implores you to send it to absolutely everyone in your address book immediately
  2. It purports to be the breaking news, before BBC, ITV or CNN
  3. It is allegedly leaked from a huge, well-known corporation like Microsoft, AOL, IBM or similar
