Virus Alerts

The very best form of anti virus software is you. Simply do not open any attachment that you receive unless:

You know the person that sent it to you
You trust the person that sent it to you
You were expecting it
You know what it is

If you can't satisfy all of the above, don't satisfy your curiosity either unless you know how to take precautions and have done so. The best alternative is to delete it and empty your deleted items so that it's gone completely. Then you can reply to the sender and ask them what it was, safely!

If this isn't enough for you, because you're terminally curious, then you need to install some form of anti virus software but - and here is the biggest caveat of all - they are only as good as the last time you updated it from the supplier's web site or mailing list.

It is therefore imperative to check each time you connect to the internet, assuming that's about once a day, unless your installation is set to check automatically while you get on with other things.
