The Final Piece - Issue 1As part of our programme of keeping in-touch with customers, 2006 sees the launch of our new quarterly newsletter. With general news, updates on new services, business improvements and self-help tips to make using computers that bit easier, we hope you enjoy our first issue. Contents:
2005 A Very Good Year for DreamGeniusWell, where did 2005 go? It was a very good year for DreamGenius with the addition of several new customers, small and large.
A move to new premises means that we are now able to enhance the service we provide and are placing emphasis on proactive methods as well as being there for reactive response in an emergency. **NEW** Update Service for Dial-Up UsersIn January 2006, DreamGenius will commence a subscription-only service to ensure that customers receive regular updates to Microsoft Windows and Office products. Updates provided by Microsoft are geared towards broadband users so, in recognition that many of our customers still use dial-up connections, we are starting a new service whereby subscribers can receive a regular CD-ROM of updates. The CD-ROM will be obtained from Microsoft specifically for you thus saving substantial amounts of time and cost by removing the need for lengthy telephone connections to download the information yourself.
**NEW** Remote Assistance ServiceIn January 2006, DreamGenius will commence a new support service providing customers with the flexibility of choice as well as our standard call-out option, we will now be able to remotely support your machine. This new remote assistance service reduces the cost to customers by removing our travel expenses. Its very simple one call from you to arrange a mutually convenient time and, in front of your very eyes, we will remotely control your machine and show you click-by-click how to solve your immediate problem.
**NEW** Additional Payment MethodsIn response to calls from customers to make payment easier, we are pleased to advise that we can now accept credit or debit cards and BACS transfer.
Changes to Supported Operating SystemsFrom 1st January 2006 DreamGenius will change the support it provides for some Microsoft operating systems. We will continue to provide support (to existing customers only) for Windows 98 and Windows ME, even though Microsoft withdrew its support for these operating systems over a year ago. We have made the difficult decision to withdraw support for Windows 95 and Windows NT as Microsoft withdrew same more than three years ago. If this decision affects you, please email us urgently in order that we can explore options with you. NB: Microsoft withdraws support for legacy versions of its Windows operating system about five years after launch. There will come a time when we also have to withdraw support for Windows 98 and Windows ME, but notice will be given to affected customers, well in advance, and advice offered on the options available. Self-Help Tips - Online UpdatesDreamGenius provides a popular on-site system health check service for customers but, in our aim to help our customers help themselves, we'd like to bring two Microsoft update sites to your attention. Please be aware that these are, as mentioned above, primarily aimed at broadband users. If you are still on a dial-up connection, please consider our Update Service to save your telephone bill. Windows Live Safety Centre - Still at the testing stage, the Windows Live Safety Centre by Microsoft allows users to analyse their machine online, receive instruction on what to do to improve its performance and tips on how to keep it running efficiently. An online virus scan is also available - a useful second opinion to your existing software. Microsoft Office Updates - For some time, Microsoft has also had an update service for their Office suite but has not publicised it as much as their Windows Update service above. Please go to Office Update to see how to make sure your installation is up-to-date. and to download additional tools to make Microsoft Office more powerful and useful still. NB: These sites do not automatically check your system; you have to invoke them. In no way are they a substitute for running and updating anti-virus software full-time or regularly visiting Windows Update to keep your operating system updated. These are additional weapons in your arsenal, not replacements. Kind regards and a prosperous New Year |
